Doing Something Good

Hey guys,

How are you all? I really hope everybody has had a great kickoff to the holiday season. I just wanted to share a little something with you.

During this past summer I lost a pet, my rabbit Eadbhard Andreas. My brother was babysitting him while I was in Pennsylvania and somehow he disappeared. I still don't know what happened to him but I think my brother may know more than he has told me. Anyway, after that happened I really wanted another rabbit because they are such great pets and I really missed Eadbhard. My oldest brother goes to the Hillsdale auctions many Saturdays. He informed me that they auctioned rabbits and other animals there. My dad, brother, and I went to the auction to find me a new friend. We walked around the many cages and one special little rabbit caught my eye. It was in a cage with three other young rabbits. We kept looking but I had my heart set on that young rabbit. It looked just like Eadbhard. When it came time for the auction there was a family of four and my brother both bidding. The winner had to pay the winning price for each rabbit. My brother stopped at $4.50 and the family won. I teared up because I wanted that rabbit so badly. They left to go turn in their ticket to get the rabbits. When they came back to the barn, my father, bless his heart, asked the family if he could buy the rabbit I had wanted. There were 3 others so I thought maybe we'd have a chance at getting it. The father lifted one of the young girls so that she could see if she would let us have it. That sweet young girl said yes and my dad gave them $5. That wonderful family made my day, and warmed my heart with something so small but so meaningful. The whole day I had been thinking what I would name it, I figured that it would be a male. I found out that it was female. The mother of the family reminded me a little of a wonderful role model of mine. I decided to name my baby rabbit Orla Rosalynn in their honor. Every time I hold her, I think of those wonderful people who did something so kind for me.

This morning my mother and I went shopping to get some black Friday deals. We went to BestBuy first to pick up an Xbox 360 Elite for my brother to give to his son for Christmas. We got lucky with quick moving lines. After we left Bestbuy we went to Menards. Menards was absolutely packed and it was hard to find the things I needed to get. I gave up and got in line to check out with the few things we did have. One of the toys I wanted to get for my young nephew was in the cart of a lady a few isles away. One again it was dad to the rescue, he asked the woman where she had found the toy. She told us so we ran and found it, along with everything else I needed. Luckily the lines at Menards were moving very slowly. Walking back to my mom in line, a lady asked me where I had found that one toy. I told her and she said "oh ok" and seemed very bummed because she couldn't go get it. About five minutes later I felt like there was something I really needed to do. I decided I wouldn't feel right if I didn't help that dear lady. Without her knowledge, nor my mother and father's, I ran back to the toys and got that one toy. I ran back and handed the toy to her, with the young child about my nephew's age sitting there. He was young so he won't remember. The woman was very grateful and asked to shake my hand. She said her and another lady were just talking about nice people. I was delighted that I was able to brighten somebody's day, even just for a little while. It made me feel like a great person.

Both these things have happened to me, I have seen both sides of the good karma. Giving gifts, lending a hand, and all other good deeds feel good not only for those who receive, but for those who give as well. This holiday season and all seasons to come, keep this in mind and try to help somebody, even if it's something little. I hope that this has touched you in a way that will help the world be a kinder place.

With much love and blessings,
Teresa Rae Bundy
